what did i do?For an hour on February 20, 2016, I helped the librarian reshelve the library. I helped them by putting books in it shelves and help to organize them by placing in the shelve where each one is supposed to be. Not only that, I was able to help order the books making the book look tidy and neat on their shelves. Also, I was assigned to give comments and recommend the reader about some particular book. reflectionsI realized that being a librarian is not easy and that the kids are very careless. They do not place books in the place that they are supposed to be and it makes it very hard for people to find their book. The librarian job is very tiring too because they have to keep organizing the books at all time since books are always out of its order. I realized that if I read any book, I should place it back to the place where I took it from. Also, I started to understand how it is like to read books and give recommends. It is not easy at all because it takes time and effort to give good comments about any books. how is this related to els0?It is related to strategic learner because in this community service, I recognize what is important to know by recognizing that the librarian worked very hard for the students. I reflect on learning and how our mistakes could help us to improve by recognising the problems of kid not arranging the books properly and wanting to solve this problem by encouraging kids to help arrange their books properly.
What did we do?I went to the paper ranger with a group of air purser on May 15, 2016 near Thonglor. There were several steps for us to make a book from scrap paper. First, we had to fold the scrap paper in half. Then we organize them neatly, making sure to put the folded side on to the cover. After that, we use a hammer and nail to make hole and ropes to tie the paper together. Having all of these steps done, we now have a cute looking book. To make the book look more attractive we would draw cartoons or images and colour them. Mostly I did the last step. I drew a lot of cartoon and I colour them making it look best as I could possibly do. ReflectionsI realized that I'm very lucky because I have all the books and notebooks that I need while some kids do not even have the same opportunity as I do. I also noticed that people these days do waste a lot of paper without doing something useful to it. By this, we can now change these wasted paper into something better which are books for children who has lesser opportunity than us. I think it is a very good idea which helps the community and society become a better place. How is it related to ESLO?I think it is related to ESLO by Altruistic Global Citizens because it is stated that show concern and responsibility for the well being of the community in which this organization really shows caring to the rural areas and rural kids where they have no books to study and by being very detailed to make a good book which these kids would want to use really show their concern towards these kids. Also, sending these books to them show their responsibility because they have to keep doing it all the time until it turns into part of their routine doing it everything throughout the year.
What did I do?I went to take homeless dogs to walk around for 2 hours on April 22, 2016. It is located on the Mahidol campus because the dogs need some exercise to be healthy and there was no one to take them for a walk. ReflectionsI realized that dogs aren't always scary since I was always scared of dogs. Not only that, I realized that some are born lucky having owners to take care of them while some are unlucky because they are left alone with no one to take care of them. I realized that these dogs just need someone to feed them and care for them just like how we people want someone to look after us. They just need a friend to be with them and they would be very friendly and nice to us if we treat them the same way. How is it related to ESLO?It is related to ESLO by morally intelligent persons. It is stated that we are hardworking and caring. I think that we should all work harder to solve the issue of homeless dogs in order to make our community a better place and care for these dogs which need love just like other human beings.
We had to make a poster for the science fair in order to earn our learner activity hours. This is a competition between classes. Our class won!
What did we do?My friends and I went to make poppy flowers for the veteran. We went at 10 am and stayed until 3 pm. However, we brought more materials to make more flowers at home. So we got a total of 14 hours. I used to think that these flowers are easy to make and coming to this place made me felt differently. I realized that there are steps in order to make the perfect poppy flowers and that these steps have to be done exactly right otherwise these flowers could not be sold. These flowers are made professional, but sold cheaply which I felt that it should be sold in a more valuable price. Most of the flowers are made by the wife of the veterans which I felt that it was very touching that these people worked hard in order to help their husbands and other veterans. One flower of poppy is made with a lot of effort and hopes, but people just handle it carelessly. It made me acknowledge how these people in the organization worked so hard in order to help the veteran which are people who sacrifice themselves to help the society. It made me realized that people should help contribute more to these people. ReflectionIn this community service, I’ve learned how to make “perfect” poppy flowers. I was able to make the poppy flower step by step. The people from the organization taught me how to specialize each steps and taught me what made the flowers from the organization differ from other normal flowers. Besides that, I’ve learned that the soldiers sacrificed so much for us, yet the people ignored that fact. I think that the society should play more role in helping these people and support the organization. How is this related to ESLO?I think that this community service is related to Strategic Learners. In which clause a stated that “Recognize what is important to know and understand.” This community service made me recognize the importance of this organization and understand why this organization has to be established. I’ve learned how hard it is for the veteran and their family to support themselves. At first, I never thought that the poppy flowers were necessary and I don’t even understand why people have to buy them. After helping this organization, I understood why there is a need in helping these people.
What did we do?On February 14th, 2016 My friends and I went to help the blind kids with their homework for 6 hours. We had to help them by teaching them, and not just telling them the answer. It was a challenging experience because they couldn't see and sometimes we have to elaborate and help them create a picture that they can never imagine. I taught a blind boy which is the same age as me. I helped him with his essay and he tried very hard which I find it very impressing because some of the kids that had everything might not even try as hard as him, Moreover, he wanted to be a musician and he showed us his guitar skills and it was shocking, He could not see, but he could play it very well, It was probably because he never stopped trying and he played it by his heart. Also, I taught a girl in grade 12 (older than me). It was hard for me because I had to read biology papers in Thai which I don't find Thai familiar. However, I tried my best and helped her as much as I could. In addition, I helped another girl in grade 12 make her Christmas card. It was a bit difficult because I can't make the card exactly like what she wanted me to do, but I tried my best making it as accurate to what she wanted. ReflectionsAfter going on Bangkok School for The Blind, it made me learned a lot of life lessons. First, I've learned to never gave up, after seeing those blind kids I saw that they had a huge potential that I respect and I admire how they never gave up. Second, I've learned that I was lucky and I should be happy with what I have, just like these people who never complained about why they were born different. Last, I've learned that if we have more opportunities and ability than others, we should use them to help the people who had less than us, just like my friends and I that went to help the blind kids there should be more of that. how is this related to elso?I think this community service is in the Morally Intelligent Person group because we show honesty, hardworking, and caring. Honesty in which we don't just do their homework for them, but we teach them the process of doing it. Hardworking in which all of us stayed there for 6 hours in a very hot place and put in effort to help these kids. Lastly, caring in which we asked if they understand what we taught them and also try to make them smile, be happy, and enjoy for what we have given them.
MUIDS has required each student to do 30 hours of community service. In exception of the 8 hours which we will earn from Week Without Walls. The left over 22 hours, we will have to find an organization to complete the hours. In the condition that, we must go to varieties of organization, more than two different organizations.
The attached file include a powerpoint of what we had did throughout one semester of our Love Me, Love My Papers project. Also, it contains of the information and details of our project. |
