ProposalI plan to compose a sound scape using a photo of the cafeteria as an inspiration. The process that I will go through in order to complete my project is to record, edit, and organize sounds using elements of music to express my creative ideas. I have planned to record the sound of people eating in the school cafeteria. The sound would emphasize the daily routine on how students spend their time on the cafeteria each day. First off, the bell will ring and the students would open the door and walk to the cafeteria. After they enter the cafeteria, they will be paying cash banks and coins to the vendors. Despite this, it also displays the sound the cook trying to light up the fire and cooking with pans and spatula. After that, the sound of the students pouring water to a cup would be heard as well as the sound of the spoons and forks that people are eating their lunch. You are also able to hear the sound of them chewing their lunch and people talking loudly while they are eating their lunch. Lastly, the sound of them opening snacks and packages. I wanted them to feel the atmosphere of eating in the cafeteria and the tempo of this recording would be slow or fast depending on the activities done. 10 or more Sounds

ReflectionWhat were my successes? By doing this project, I was able to understand how difficult it is to create a smooth sound recording that mimics the environment in our daily life. Not only understanding that it was difficult, but I was also able to further learn that it is related to how film production works. Throughout the process of creating this project, I was able to learn new things. For instance, learning to to use audacity, a program that is used to edit professional sound recordings. This program allows me to use various of effects such as amplify, reverbs, fade in, fade out, and a lot of other tools. These effects allows me to adjust my volume of each sounds, making the sound seems like a flashback or seems more real, and creating smooth transitions. In addition, I had to go record variety of sounds which allows me to learn that other objects or actions may be used to imitate a particular sounds. An example would be a bacon frying might sound like it is raining. All of these skills that I have learned have helped me to create a better recording of the cafeteria. Despite this, I’ve always ask feedbacks from my teachers and friends which have helped me recognize all of the flaws in my work and continue to improve it. What were my failures? Since the project that was given had to include only sounds that were recorded by us, I might not get the exact sound as I had imagine. Furthermore, I also felt that recording sounds using a mobile phone might not allow me to gain the best quality for the sounds. Despite these factors, I also felt that I have improved my knowledge in using audacity, but there are still functions that I was not capable of using which would have enhanced my recordings. Moreover, I felt that my recordings had improved throughout the course; however, it was not very smooth and even with transitions that I had added on, it is still not very realistic. Besides this, I also felt that I have added intervals to the recordings so that it doesn’t seem like everything is happening at the same time, yet I was not able to fully portray to the audience what I wanted them to imagine. What can I learn from my mistakes? My mistakes such as not adjusting the sound volume very well and having bad time intervals had allowed me to keep improving my skills. I was also able to learn how to amplify sounds and how to make a smoother transitions in order to make some spaces to my recording. What are my strengths and my weaknesses (areas for growth) as a learner? My strength as a learner was that I reflect from my mistakes and keep improving. However, my weakness was that I was not able to recognize some of my own work flaws. Sometimes I would not know what to edit or to improve when there are always room for improvement. What could I do differently next time?I think if this project was to be repeated again, I would spend more time and planned more. I would have thought about the plot and make it more like a story. What did I learn about myself as a learner and as a person? As a learner, I have improved my music skills and improve my knowledge in using computer programs to edit recordings. As a person, I have learned to become more patient and to seek for improving myself. How does this relate to ESLOs?1) STRATEGIC LEARNERS
I was able to recognize the importance of this project which is to create a recording that mimics the environment. Throughout this course, I was able to reflect on myself and learn that my mistakes help me improve myself. I was able to use my time wisely and have planned what I was going to do each class without wasting any time. I was also able to conduct research on how to use audacity and work on my project. 2) INNOVATIVE THINKERS I was able to come up with my creative and original ideas of the sounds that I would record and edit. I have used my mobile phone to record my sounds and my computer to edit them, creating a high quality project. 3) ARTICULATE COMMUNICATORS I was able to listen to some of my teachers and friends comment and have commented back on some of my friends’ work. I have also used my computer to publish this project so that others could listen and learn from it. 4) LEADERS FOR THE FUTURE I have listened to others recordings and gave feedbacks to theirs. However, they might not agree with my comments and I understand that each individuals have different ideas and perspective on a particular idea. Despite this, I also accept their criticism on my work. Both my friends and I have helped one another to complete a common goal which is to create the best product for our project as possible.
