What did we do in this Quarter? In this quarter, we were assigned to create a self-directed project which consists of making a product that represents Thai tradition. Before we started this project, we had done some class activities that had given us some basics and helped us come up with ideas. The first activity is watching two Thai music videos, identifying Thai objects in that are included in the video. After those activities, we had to select two Thai tradition objects to conduct researches on, developing product ideas as a practice before we would be creating the final one. For our final product, we had to conduct researches following these steps: finding its background information, the purpose of conducting researches about it, and knowledge that we would like to earn from conducting this research. Despite all of these hard processes, we have to also spent various of time to physically creating our product. I had chose Thai dessert as my topic because I think it is something that I would be interested on. I decided to make rings, hair clips, and ear rings with Thai dessert design on top of them. I had been using clay to create Thai dessert model. Then I sprayed gold color into some of the clay to place on top of some of the dessert that had gold color and hair clip so that it would look nice. In addition, I had also sprayed lacquer so that it would look elegant. Lastly I placed all of the model on the accessories by using glue gun. How does it Relate to Eslos?1) STRATEGIC LEARNERS I recognize that being able to conduct researches on the object that we had chosen and creating a product that is unique, containing modern and traditional idea is important for this unit. I had also understand the mistakes that I have made throughout my process of working and had kept improving over time. Since this quarter is very short, I have learned how to plan and work wisely, not wasting any time. Lastly, I have used technology such as laptops and cellphones to do research for this project. 2) INNOVATIVE THINKERS I have build on the ideas of others to create a product that is original and also the concept and product would have to suit one another well. I have applied what I have study in class in order to do the research that I have done. In addition, I have learned to explain to others about what I have learned while making this project and why it is important. I was also creative and original because my product is unique from others. Furthermore, I have also use technology such as my iPads and laptops to create high quality slides as a presentation for this project. 3) ARTICULATE COMMUNICATORS I listen to my friends' presentation and ideas. Also, I have read on various of previous researches and wrote my own understanding of them. I spoke while I presented to my friends and have explained to others about my project and ideas. I have also published my work into this weebly so that others could view them and learn from it. Whole year ReflectionOverall, I think Thai Civics has opened up a lot of things in the World to me. My favorite lesson in this class is the laws that we have studied. Although it is very hard, but I felt that it is very important and could be used in my daily life. Truly, I have enjoyed this class very much because in each class the lessons seem to be very surprising. Miss Kwang have always find good explanation to the lessons, especially on the lesson on laws she had used current news that most students have heard about. Not only having good lessons, but she had always done her homework on the things that she might not know. She would always go back home and do more researches, coming with answers on the future classes. If there was something that I think that she could've improved, I guess it would be the workloads and the lessons planned in class. Sometimes I felt that there are too much work given because every detail of the work is significant in this class. Also, in this last unit, we couldn't make all presentations on class time because there wasn't enough time. I felt that Miss Kwang might be able to give comments separately in a piece of paper since she has a lot of comments and saying all of it might cause a delay in a presentation. However, I find her comments very useful and helpful. Lastly, this class has been very fun and I have enjoyed all of the times that I have spent. Works

Reflection for Thai Traditional Recycle Costume Contest (TTRCC)In this project, my class (1206) have come up with the concept Kinnari, a Thai mythical creature in Himmapan forest with beautiful wings and tails. In this project, we have used the Thai traditional style combined with the modern fashion from the Western countries to create this costume. At the same time, we have only used recycle materials to create this project. During class time, I helped my friends tear up paper bags into a big flat paper, so that it could be used to create something useful for the dress. I have also used the ropes from the bags and tie it up so that it would look nice. Aside from that, I have brought various of leftover paper bags to Week Without Walls. Some of my friends and I have worked on tearing the bags and drawing and cutting leftover cardboard boxes to create the Thai style dress accessories. After coming back from Week Without Walls, I have worked on the Kinnari tail with my another friend for the whole day. We have been crafting the leftover foams and future boards from other classes, spraying the gold color, and glittering it. We were able to finish the tail within that one day. Aside from that, during my study halls, I have also rolled the papers and have helped my friend stick it on the wings of the Kinnari. In this project, I have learned to work with others and the process of having a successful teamwork. I realized that it might not always be easy to work with others and not everyone will agree on the same thing. Therefore, having a good communication will be very useful. Studying in the Thai Civics class, allows us to feel engaged in contributing to the community. In this work, we have become a good role model to our society like using recycled materials to create this dress. We have showed that we do care about the environment. Moreover, we have also show that we love our country because we have use Thai traditional style to design the dress and have also shown our creativity, making it become more modern. Not only that, we have also used Morally Intelligent Persons and Altruistic Global Citizens by working very hard for a high quality work and was a good role model for the society because we have used leftover materials. Lastly, we used the quality of Leaders of the Future because we have worked in groups, accept one another decisions, comment on our peers work, and have find solutions in worst case scenarios. EslosIn these units, we have used various of ESLOs:

Types of relationship in a societyThis mind map is a work that as assigned to us so that we could understand more about different types of relationship one could have. There are two kinds: the relationship you received when you were born and the relationship you received from your work or talent. Therefore, in this mind map, we had write down our family members. For our mother and father, we had to think of 3 roles that they are supposed to do as a mother and father. For our siblings, we had to think of 3 status that they have and 3 roles for each status that they are suppose to do. After this, our work was exchanged with a friend, who would recheck our work and gave us some feedbacks. Social structureFor this assignment, we were assigned one big group; however, we were divided into 5 subgroups. Each individuals will be placed in different groups and are assigned to read different types of news that affect different social institutions. After understanding our own news, we would have to complete this sheet below. From this assignment, we were able to fully understand about problems that may occur in a particular social institution. Social Issues and its solutionsThis is a continuous project from the previous assignment. After gathering all of the news and the issues in different social institute, we were assigned to think of the root of these problems. Our group decided that family is the main conflict that leads to other circumstances. In this project, we had to make a poster which emphasizes the problems and solutions to the social institute. By this, we thought of a concept where there is a damaged hair, with all the social issues written down, and the conditioner which demonstrates all the solutions that we had thought of. After presenting the project to our friend, we had received comments from our teachers and friends so that we can further improve in this future. Review sheet before quarter examThis sheet was given as a review for us. The answers given by the teacher is written in red. Reflection on Eslos1) STRATEGIC LEARNERS
By doing all of the projects and assignments, I was able to recognize the importance of having different type of social class and structure. Throughout the quarter, I had reflected the flaws that I have done in each work and keep improving my performance in each assignments or projects. I was able to learn how to manage my time since the time given for each of the work might not be enough to finish them during class. Despite this, my laptop was always used to conduct research and to take notes on google document. 2) INNOVATIVE THINKERS I was able to analyze and evaluate the circumstances that was taught to me and was able to come up with ideas on how to resolve these issues. Despite this, my group was creative and original in creating our poster. I have also used technology to take good notes, take pictures and scan them to upload them into my portfolio, and creating this weebly website. 3) ARTICULATE COMMUNICATORS In this class, I had listened to the teacher when she was teaching in class and my friends when they were presenting. In some of the assignments, we were assigned take notes on what we had read. Moreover, we had to speak when we presented in front of the class. Not only making presentations, but we had to talk and listen to each other when we were doing our project. This class also enable us to understand different social groups by understanding their circumstance. I am able to expose my knowledge through this weebly website to show others about what I have studied. 4) MORALLY INTELLIGENT PERSONS By learning Thai Civics and Duty, I am able to encourage behaviors that are moral, honest, and correct according to society's rules. Knowing different classes and relationships in the society allows me to support honesty, justice, and peace within the community. 5) ALTRUISTIC GLOBAL CITIZENS This class teaches me different social classes and have taught me to respect others and become a responsible citizen. By creating a poster that display social issues, it shows that I am concerned and is responsible for the well-being of the community. 6) LEADERS FOR THE FUTURE I have worked with others in my group in order to create a poster that we all liked. In the beginning, some of us have different thoughts and ideas for the concept of the poster. However, we have talked and voted on the best one that we liked. We had worked through our differences and accept our members decision. By working together, we were able to learn about each others flaws. We had gave feedbacks on how each one of us are able to improve and become a better person. |
